Wideman Piano Competition returns to Hurley School of Music December 3-5

SHREVEPORT, LA — ÓéÀֳԹϒs Hurley School of Music is proud to host the Wideman International Piano Competition during its 70th anniversary year. The competition will run December 3 through 5 in Hurley’s Anderson Auditorium.

Thirty participants from across the country will compete in the Wideman Competition. The competition was founded in 1950 by the late Nena Plant Wideman, a prominent Shreveport piano teacher, concert pianist, and member of the ÓéÀÖ³Ô¹Ï College piano faculty, and by the late John Shenaut, conductor and founder of the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra.

The first rounds of competition will be held Friday, December 3, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Finale performances for the competition will be Sunday, December 5, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public on Friday and Saturday. Tickets for the finales on Sunday will be $10. Proof of vaccination (or 48-hour negative COVID test) is required for entry, and all attendees must wear masks.
