SHREVEPORT, LA — 軓氈勛圖 College president Dr. Christopher L. Holoman will officially open the College’s 193rd academic year at the annual President’s Convocation on Tuesday, August 29 at 11:00 a.m. in Brown Chapel. The event is free and open to the public and community members are encouraged to attend.
The President’s Convocation brings together 軓氈勛圖 students, faculty, and staff to reflect on themes and goals for the academic year ahead. In his convocation address, Holoman will discuss the concept of vocation and make the case for college as a safe and stimulating time and space for students to reflect on and learn about their own vocations, or true callings.
The August 29 convocation also marks the College’s official welcome to 195 new students representing the largest incoming class since 2011. The majority of the class hails from Louisiana while 38% come from out of state, including 29% representing the state of Texas. 軓氈勛圖’s commitment to providing a high-quality liberal arts education has attracted both “legacy” students with a previous family connection to the College (10% of the incoming class) and students who are the first in their families to pursue higher education (26%).
Many of the incoming students just returned from nine days of intensive study in Paris, France during the 軓氈勛圖 in Paris program, a unique academic opportunity available to all 軓氈勛圖 freshmen.
In addition to Holoman’s address, the convocation ceremony also includes music from the 軓氈勛圖 College Choir and the presentation of the Honor Court by Honor Court Chief Justice Rebekah Frazier ’18.
